Bio

Don Jares of 400 E. Spruce died at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 11 in West Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13 at St. Mary's Church in West with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Interment will follow in White Rock Cemetery. Rosary is to be recited tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. in Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel; Msgr. George Doskocil will officiate. Mr. Jares was born in West, the son of Fred and Edith Jares. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from West High School in 1961. At West High, Jares was very active, holding various class offices and belonging to the National Honor Society. At the Baylor Science Fair he won 2nd place and also placed in poetry reading in the U.I.L. contest. Jares had degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Tarleton State University. He had done graduate work on a Ph.D. at Texas A&M University and lacked nine hours to complete the degree. Jares had taught at West Elementary, Ross Middle School and West High. In a story written earlier this year, Jares was described as a "man of courage" and a "true Trojan" by his longtime associate, Milton "Poone" Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Dovie; two sons, Jeffrey and Jason and three daughters, Janis, Jennifer and Judy, all of West; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Jares; and two brothers, Melvin Jares of Elm Mott and Larry Jares of West. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West, Monsignor Mark Deering as celebrant. Burial will be at White Rock Cemetery in Ross. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, Monsignor George Doskocil officiating. Mr. Jares was born in West, attended St. Mary's School in West and graduated from West High School in 1961. He received degrees from the University of Texas and Tarelton State College in Stephenville. He also did graduate work on a doctoral degree at Texas A&M University. He taught at West Elementary School, Ross Middle School and West High School. Survivors include his wife, Dovie Jares; two sons, Jeffrey Jares and Jason Jares, both of West; three daughters, Janis Jares, Jennifer Jares and Judy Jares, all of West; his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Jares of West; and two brothers, Melvin Jares of Elm Mott and Larry Jares of West. The family has designated the Don Jares Memorial Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society for memorials.
