Rites held for A.B. Berger, City Employee Funeral services for Alphonse Berger, 56, were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at West Church of Assumption. Rt. Rev. Alfred Hoenig, O.S.B. Abbot of Corpus Christi Abbey gave the Sermon. Rev. Mark Berger, chaplain of Spahn Hospital in Corpus Christi officiated at the Requiem High Mass assisted by Rev. James Quilter. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mr. Berger died at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold-Moore Funeral Chapel. Mr. Berger was born in Tours. He was employed with the Joe Pareya Gin in Tours until he moved to Massey to work for the gin when it was moved. He was married to the former Beatrice Gerik of West in 1936. Mr. Berger served two years with the U.S. Navy in the Philippines. Following his tour of duty, he went to work for the City of West. He was employed with the City for 17 years until his death. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, of West; three brothers: Rev. Mark Berger of Corpus Christi, I.F. Berger of Waco, and W. J. Berger of Rt. 2, West; three sisters: Mrs. Angeline Vohl of Rt. 2, West, Mrs. Agnes Girard of Baytown, and Mrs. Emma Housewright of Rt. 2, West. Pallbearers were Frank J. Cocek, Elo Zatopek, John Kubala, Jerome Kopecky, Lynn Harris, and Joe Horsak. Out-of-town persons attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Berger of Elk, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Berger of McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Elles and Jimmy, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sembera and Judy, Mrs. Lud. Gerik, and Mrs. Rudolph Chada, all of LaSalle, Texas; and Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Franek, Randy and Nicki of Harlingen. Also Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Gerik of Kingsville, Mrs. J. L. Penick of Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stepan and Mr. John Lee Stepan, all of Austin; Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Meredith of Bynum, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Berger, Mrs. Regina Berry, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kucera, Mrs. Georgia Sykora, Mrs. Loyd Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kramolis, Mrs. Zora Thompson, Mrs. Leroy Haley, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gerik, Mrs. Johnny Simcik, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kramolis all of Waco.
