Bio

Margrett Ann Howard was born 2 February 1876 in Washburn, Logan, Arkansas, the daughter of William Thomas Howard (1845-1882) and Sophronia Rush Crossland Howard (1845-1917) b. in Georgia). Siblings: Rosalee Dupont Howard Williams (1867-1899), George F. Howard (b. 1870-Louisiana), Hiram B. Howard (b. 1973-Arkansas), Limuel T. Howard (b. 1873-Arkansas), Frances R. Howard (b. 1878-Arkansas). Her father was a farmer. At the age of 18, she married Henry Anderson Phillips on 24 Apr 1890. Henry was 22 years of age. They were the parents of 9 children: Epsie [Phillips] Blanton (1891-1961), Jerry Thomas Phillips (1894-1963), Vernie Adeline [Phillips] Compton (1897-1976), Gustie Guy Phillips (1900-1966), Evelyn Ann [Phillips] Ayers (1903-1959), George Harvey Phillips (1905-1987), Limuel Buel Phillips (1908-1966), Paul Anderson Phillips (1912-1964) and Hattie Irene [Phillips] Hughes/Miller (1916-1983). The 1910 Census Record shows the family living in Grayson Towhship, Jefferson County, Oklahoma. On the 8th of May in 1917, Maggie died of a massive heart attack while running across the field to help a neighbor lady who was in labor. She was 41 years of age. Her death certificate stated that she had Chronic Nephritis. Margarett was laid to rest in the Martin Hill Cemetery in Pottawatomie, Oklahoma.
