Entered the service from Louisiana. Died in WW2. Served in the US Navy as Communications Operator. THE LEESVILLE LEADER, THRUSDAY, JUNE 3, 1943 Barney Thompson Drowns in Pacific Mr. and Mrs. Valzey Thompson of Pitkin, Louisiana received a telegram from the Navy Department advising them of the death of their son, Barney E. Thompson. Seaman 3rd Class, United States Navy, by accidental drowning somewhere in the Pacific. He was born and raised near Pitkin, Louisiana and was attending Pitkin High School at the time he volunteered for the Navy on July 10, 1941. At the time of his death he was nineteen years of age. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Valzey Thompson , two sisters, Mrs. Paul James and Elnora Thompson, four brothers, Gilbert, Roy and Leo all of Pitkin and Henry E. in United States Navy, Norfolk , Va.
