Funeral services for Mrs. Elnora “Tootie” Thompson Blankenship will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Glade Branch Baptist Church, Cravens with Reverend Tommy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Drakes Fork Cemetery, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mrs. Blankenship, 86, of Cravens, entered eternal rest on Friday, March 17, 2017 in DeRidder, LA. Elnora was born in Cravens, Louisiana to Elizabeth and Valzy Thompson on October 21, 1930. She went to school in Pitkin and moved to Dallas in 1947 to pursue a career in nursing. She married D.L. Blankenship on October 1, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. She worked as a Registered Nurse for thirty six years before retiring and moving back to take care of her mother and to raise her grandsons. She was a very nurturing lady who took care of people all her life. To everyone that knew her she was “Grandma”! She was very active in her church at Glade Branch, holding several positions over the years from clerk to adult Sunday school teacher. She dearly loved her church family. She was also a very avid quilter and she loved to crochet. She never thought about herself, she always took care of others first. Elnora was preceded in death by her parents, Valzy and Elizabeth Thompson; her husband, D.L. Blankenship; her son, David Leslie Blankenship; five brothers, Barney Thompson, Henry Thompson, Gilbert Thompson, Leo Thompson and Roy Thompson and her sister, Eva James. Those left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory include her grandsons, Jonathan Blankenship, John “Bubba” Blankenship, her step-grandchildren, Jenny Martin, DeDe Messer, Adam Derouin, Fred Derouin and Betsy Godwin, along with a host of “adopted” grandchildren over the years. Friends may call Glade Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will reopen on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
