Served US Civil Service during WW2. Roy Thompson was born May 7, 1928 in Cravens, Louisiana to Valzy Thompson and Elizabeth Bailey Thompson. He died at his home on January 23, 2017 at the age of 88. He is survived by a sister, Elnora Blankenship of Cravens, his wife of 71 years Audrey Green Thompson of DeRidder, one daughter , Phyllis-Ron Francois of Eunice and two sons, Ron-Melda Thompson of DeRidder and Ken-Monica Thompson of Eunice. There are seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Roy became an ordained minister with the United Pentecostal Church in 1958. He planted churches in Nashville, Arkansas, and Conway, Arkansas and pastored Louisiana churches in Church Point, Breaux Bridge, Richie and Peason Ridge. His final 25 years during retirement, he served First Pentecostal Church of DeRidder as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, Building Committee Chairman, Trustee, and General Handyman. When something needed repair, somebody would say "call Bro T". He could frequently be found somewhere around the church with a tool belt on. Roy was a man of many talents. He could rebuild a truck engine, build a boat, build a house, build a grandfather clock, train a horse, preach a sermon, and he dearly loved to discuss the Bible which he read through at least once every year. When his eyes failed, he listened to his daily chapters on CD. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in his 40's and was a student all is life. He constantly read on many subjects and loved to teach (or argue) about almost anything. Special thanks to Dr. Pandya who shared this journey with Dad from the beginning of the cancer 18 years ago. He would want to thank all the nurses and staff of Beauregard Memorial who gave loving care through the years, including lipstick kisses on his bald head. Toward the end, Companion Care and Heart of Hospice provided professional and loving care which made it so much easier. Paw T. you will be missed terribly, but you left so many memories that will bring smiles to all who knew you. Visitation will be at First Pentecostal Church, DeRidder on Thursday, January 26 from 5-9 PM and on Friday from 9 until service time. The funeral service will be at the church also at 11 AM on Friday, January 27. Officiating at the graveside will be Rev. Kevin Reeves and Rev. Chance Lewis.
