Leo Douglas Thompson, 81, of Lake Charles, LA, walked into heaven at 11:01 AM on Sunday, October 11, 2015, in a local hospital. Mr. Thompson was born February 9, 1934 in Cravens, LA, and graduated from Pitkin High School. He lived in DeRidder for twenty years, where he worked as the manager of Foremost Dairies. In 1975, he moved to Lake Charles and worked at Pitt Grill as the manager, retiring after twenty-six years of service. Mr. Thompson then went to work for the Calcasieu Parish Jail, where he worked as the cafeteria manager for fifteen years, retiring in 2008. After that retirement, he worked as a cross guard at S.J. Welsh. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Mr. Thompson enjoyed motorcycles, camping, and mowing his yard and the church property, but his true passion was for his family. He had a giant heart and loved everyone; he was short in statue, but tall in character. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of sixty years daughter; son; brother; sister; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church. Reverend Dale Nazworth will officiate. Burial will follow in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
