Shoemaker , a lifetime resident of Galena passed away from this life at midnight, Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, MO following an illness. David was 82 years old. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific with the US Army. He retired from Empire District Electric Company as a maintenance foreman after working at the Riverton electric plant for 42 years. He was a great family man and an outdoorsman. His interests included bowling, boating, gardening, fishing, camping, farming, and hunting. After attending Galena High School and joining the army, David married Margie D. Sims . They had three children; Linda (husband, Jud) Williams, Suzanne (husband, Kevin) Myers, and David M. Shoemaker., all of Galena, KS. David later married Delores Feezell [Horine] on August 24, 1962 in Galena, KS. Their children are Stacy (husband, Mike) Waterman, Galena, KS, and Kathy Hoyt, Fruitland Park, FL. Delores passed away Feb. 8, 1999. Additional survivors include 2 sisters, Eva Pfiffer, New Braunfels, TX, and Darlene Sturgis, Orange Park, FL; 10 grandchildren, Marion Chesnutt, Andrew Myers, Branden Shoemaker, Cord Turner, David Williams, Kayla Haynes, Tina Perez, Katie Hoyt, Traca Reed, Courtney Waterman, and Aaron Waterman; and 11 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ashley Chesnutt, Amanda Alexander, Payton Reed, Izauah and Marlee Shoemaker, Harmony Myers, Megan and Kylie Davis, Megan Duncan and Justin Grant. One granddaughter Angelique Davis, and four brothers, Billy, Delbert, Darrell, and [Richard] Dick also preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 2: 00 – 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the funeral home. Pastor Jeff D. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Pallbearers will be David Scott, Jeremy Fields, Danny Bankson, Branden Shoemaker, Wesley Shoemaker, Marion Chesnutt, Jacob Chesnutt, and Andrew Myers.
