Margie D. Sims Shoemaker (August 25, 1928 ~ February 08, 2013) 25 August 1928 - 8 February 2013 [Estimated Age at Death: 84 years, 5 months, 14 days] *** Margie D. Shoemaker GALENA, KANSAS: Margie D. Shoemaker, age 84, passed away at 1:40 pm, Friday, Feb 8, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness. Margie was born August 25, 1928 in Baxter Springs, KS. Her parents were Boone Franklin and Eva Jane (Link) Sims [Faulstich] . She had lived in Galena most of her life. She worked several years as a medical assistant for area doctors, including Dr. Seasholtz, Dr. Kilbane, and Dr. Bazzano. She had also been an agent selling Farmers Insurance. She enjoyed working with antiques, collecting, appraising and selling at an antique shop in Galena, KS and at the Joplin MO Flea Market. She was a member of First Christian Church, Galena, KS and the Galena Woman's Club. Surviving is one son, David Mark Shoemaker of the home; two daughters, Linda (Jud) Williams, and Suzanne Myers, both of Galena, KS; 4 grandchildren, Marion (Lisa) Chesnutt, Andrew (Renee) Myers, Tina (Roger) Perez, and David Williams; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob Chesnutt, Ashley Chesnutt, Megan Duncan, Justin Grant, Kyle Davis, Megan Davis, and Harmony Stein-Myers; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Leland Chestnutt-Culley, Weston Dart, and Greyson Grant; several special nieces and nephews and her caregivers, Cathy Simpson and Sonya Hopkins. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Angie Davis and 9 brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 pm, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, Feb 12, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery Galena, KS.
