~*~ Richard Wayne 'Dick' Shoemaker 30 July 1933 ~ 13 May 1958 *** Shoemaker Rites GALENA, Kan. -- Funeral services for Richard Wayne Shoemaker , 24 years old, who was killed Tuesday morning in an automobile accident on highway 66 east of the Missouri-Kansas state line, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Empire mission in Galena Heights. The Rev. Dow Booe will officate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery under direction of the Derfelt funeral home. The body will be taken to the home of his father, William Shoemaker, Galena route 1, at 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon to lie in state until noon Friday, when it will be taken to the church. Pallbearers will be Bob Jenkins, Joe Dugan, Rex Gandy, Arvil Lewis, Pat Lewis, and Jim Fredericks. Joplin Globe, Thursday, May 15, 1958. They were going west, Hollingsworth applied the brakes coming upon another car, the left brake grabbed throwing the car into a ditch on the south side of the road, landing on it's top. Richard served in the U. S. Air force from December 1952 to October 1956. Richard was married to Ethel M. Lewis. Surviving was his widow, his father, four brothers and two sisters. ~*~ Orlena ~*~
