Bio

Audrey E. Nelson, 73, of York, died Saturday (March 15, 1986) at Omaha. She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Waco to Shelvie and Etney (Hickman) Watson. She was married Aug. 11, 1937 to Milton L. Nelson of Benedict. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York and the Lutheran Church Women. She had also served as the York County chairman of the American Heart Association's "A Time to Remember" program. Mrs. Nelson was a school teacher in Benedict and Henderson for 12 years, a 4-H leader for 15 years and a 25-year home extension club member. She taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church in Benedict and taught piano lessons. In 1972 she was named York County "Mother of the Year". Survivors include a son, Milton Leslie, and a daughter, Audrey Elaine both of Omaha; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret (Harry P.) Smith of York. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers. Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church at York. The Revs. Harlan Heier and Norman Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in York Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials are directed to the church building fund or the University of Nebraska Foundation "Eppley Cancer Science Addition" or "College of Nursing Scholarship Endowment". Metz Mortuary is handling arrangements.
