Margaret Smith, 89, of York died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 at York. She was born October 28, 1910 to Shelvie and Etney (Hickman) Watson at Corydon, Indiana. She was a member of the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York for over 60 years and had been a member of the Shiloh Friendship Circle. She was also a member of the Rebecca's Oddfellow Lodge No. 55 since 1944. After graduation from York High School in 1928 she was employed as a bookkeeper and stenographer for 45 years at several York businesses including Gillan Bakery, York State Bank, International Harvester, Don Hylton Insurance, McDonald's and the City of York. On February 15, 1958 she was marred to Harry P. Smith at York. She is survived by sisters-in-laws, Alice Watson and Mercedes Watson, both of York, and Irene (Bill) Morovac of Seward; step-sons, Russell Smith of Seattle, Wash., Donald Smith of Raymondville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 at the East Avenue United Methodist Church in York with the Rev. Jo Harper officiating.
