Bio

George William Phillips was born in Georgia in July of 1861, 3 months after the start of the American Civil War. He was 3rd of the five children born to John Wesley Phillips and Sarah Adeline [Burk] Phillips. He had one sister, Nancy (1859) and 3 brothers James S.(middle name might be Stephen) Phillips (1856-1905), William Thomas Phillips (1863-1901) and Henry Anderson Phillips (1868-1938). He married Laura Matilda LeFevre on 14 January 1888, in Sebastian County, Arkansas. They were the parents of: Mary Eva [Phillips] Boydston (1889-1970), Lessie C. [Phillips] Canada (1890-1909), Rhona Ann [Phillips] Yarbrough/Huss (1900-1996____), Dixie E. [Phillips] Wade (1902-____), Ina Unishie [Phillips] Golden (1905-1995), Henry M. Phillips (1906-1994), Louie Roudolph Phillips (1910-1952) and Archie Linial Phillips (1913-1976). George was a successful rancher and farmer and he and Laura lived in a three story house on Barber Ridge Road. He owned lots of cattle and a lot of land. He was good to his family and took good care of them. He was a very kind man and in his later life he always dressed in a 3 piece suit with lollipops in his pockets for his grandchildren. He passed away 25 August 1943 in Sebastian County, Arkansas and was buried in the Antioch Cemetery in Barber, Logan, Arkansas, USA. Note: George donated part of his farm for the Antioch Cemetery in which he is buried. According to his son Archie's death certificate, his father's name was George William Phillips.
