Dixie Evelena Phillips was born 18 November 1902 in Booneville, Logan, Arkansas, USA. She was 4th of the nine children born to George W. Phillips (1861–1943) and Laura Matilda LaFevre Phillips (1869 - 1938). Her siblings are: Mary Eva Phillips (1888–1970), Lessie C Phillips (1890–1909), Rhona Annalee Phillips (1900–1996), Ina Unishie Phillips (1905–1995), Henry M. Phillips (1906–1994), Louie Roudolph Phillips (1910–1952), Rouie Phillips (1910–1910) and Archie Linial Phillips (1913–1976). She was married on 23 Aug 1920 to T. S. Wade in Barber, Arkansas but they later divorced. She was later married 19 April 1924 to Benjamin F. Merritt in Logan County, Arkansas. They are the parents of a son and a daughter; Ben Merritt (1926-1999) and Juanita Laura Merritt (1933-1997). Married to Reece Alven Lawson (1901–1988) on 5 June 1942 in Sebastian, Arkansas, United States. Dixie passed away 14 May 1999 in Eastpointe, Macomb, Michigan, USA.
