Bio

Andy was the fifth child of Joseph and Louisa Wanke Hofbauer born in Tours, Texas. In 1911, the family moved to Muenster and lived about a mile south of town on the farm now owned by Dale and Denis Hofbauer. He attended Sacred Heart School. During his early years, beside farm work, he worked for the Muenster Milling Company for about $1.00 per day. He later worked at the cheese plant and in 1938 was named manager of the Farmers Market Association Store-Market, a position he held until he bought the store in 1953. Andy married Rose Catherine Walter in 1933. They became the parents of one son, Ronald (Larry), born November 7, 1934, and two daughters, Donna, born November 18, 1938 and Jeanine, born February 28, 1946. Andy then bought land in 1955 and built Hofbauer's Food and Locker located on Highway 82, now Muenster Antique Mall. Andy became ill with cancer in 1962, and succumbed to the disease on May 15, 1963.
