Pawling, 89, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. She died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Nye Legacy Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fremont. Marie A. Eckstein was born March 16, 1919, in Morse Bluff to Vaclav and Otilia (Veverka) Eckstein. She was a 1937 graduate of North Bend High School. She moved to Fremont after graduation and worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead. She was employed at the former Campbell Soup Co. in Fremont for several years and then cleaned homes for area families for 30 years. She married Maynard L. Pawling on Jan. 22, 1948, in Fremont; he died Dec. 16, 1994. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and Trinity Lutheran Women and Eunice Circle of the church. She also was a member of American Legion Post 20 Auxiliary of Fremont and the Western Fraternal Life Association (formerly ZCBJ Lodge). Survivors include: a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Reed) Mattson of Fremont; three sons, Robert (and wife, Colleen) Pawling of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brian (and wife,Gail) Pawling of Lincoln and Allen (and wife, Jakie) Pawling of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a brother, Anton "Tony" (and wife, Joan) Eckstein of Linwood; and 10 grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and seven brothers. The Rev. Michael Meyer will officiate Monday’s service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends 2-5 p.m., at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation also will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials have been established to Trinity Lutheran Women, Trinity Mission Fund and the American Heart Association.
