Bio

WILLIAM EDWIN "ED" BLAIR was born in Silver City, Lyon County, Nevada on 28 July 1899 to William Harvey Blair and Josephine "Josie" Henriette McTigue Blair. He was the eldest of their five children. His sister, Mary Alice was born in 1902; brother John Ernest in 1904 and twin sisters Ora and Blanche in 1907. The children were orphaned at a young age when Josie died in 1910 and William Harvey died in 1915. William Harvey Blair was a miner all of his life and taught his young son, Ed how to mine when they worked together in Courtland and Bisbee, Arizona. Ed became a hard rock miner for most of his early life. Ed married Edith Myrl Tierney in Santa Ana, Calif. in 1927 and they moved to Arizona. The family moved to Ukiah in 1945 where Ed and his wife were employed at Mendocino State Hospital until retiring in 1965. William Edwin "Ed" Blair died Sunday, Dec. 9, 1984 at a local care home in Ukiah at the age of 85. Rev. Al Damon of the First Presbyterian Church officiated the private services at 2 PM, Saturday, Dec. 15, 1984 at the Eversole Mortuary. Ed is buried in the Ukiah Cemetery beside his wife, Edith who preceded him in death in 1969. At the time of his death Ed was survived by his sister, Blanche Schuller of Fabins, Tex.; three children, Ruth Miller of Palm Desert, Barbara Pittman of Ukiah and William Edwin "Bill" Blair, Jr. of Napa; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
