Bio

Rueben Eugene Ott, the son of Henry and Katie (Pankratz) Ott, was born at Henderson, Nebraska, on March 26, 1917, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on June 3, 1987, at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 7 days. He grew up in York and Hamilton County, where he attended school, and later farmed with his parents. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and on September 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Hazel Ryder. They moved to Morris, Minnesota, where he worked on a farm. Later he farmed in the Henderson area. He worked as a carpenter most of his life, and while living at Franklin he had helped with the construction of the Harlan County Dam. He had lived in Aurora, and for the past 35 years he had resided in Giltner. He was a member of the carpenter's union #1187, and had recently received his 40 year pin. He retired in 1982. Rueben was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Henry, and one granddaughter Kristi Ott. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Hazel; 2 sons, Gary of Giltner an Leroy of York; 2 daughters, Billie Foulk, of Giltner, and Betty Schmidt of Grand Island; 4 brothers, Herman of Blountstown, Florida, Wilbur and Lloyd both of Giltner, and Freeman of Trumbull. 3 sisters, Erma Clair of Granada Hills, California, Freida Dunlap of Blountstown, Florida, and Ann Henry of North Platte, and 7 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
