Bio

Wilbur (Fat) Henry Ott, the son of William Henry and Katie (Pankratz) Ott, was born in Henderson, Nebraska on April 3, 1922 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on February 26, 2006, at the age of 83. Wilbur grew up in Henderson and attended school through the 8th grade. He served in the Air Force for four years during WWII. Wilbur flew as a tail-gunner on a B-24. He flew in over 200 missions. Wilbur was united in marriage to Marie Margaret Ryder on April 21, 1946, at Aurora. They lived in Giltner, where they raised their four children. He worked for Trumbull Co-op for 30 years. Wilbur then worked for the Dennis Corporation as a security officer. Wilbur was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church in Giltner. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and coaching baseball, especially Pee-Wee baseball in Giltner. Fat also enjoyed rebuilding old cars and attending car races. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Ott of Giltner, two daughters, Sherlyn Murray of Aurora and Linda (Bob) Kohtz of Sutton; two sons, Melvin Ott and Dennis Ott both of Grand Island; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Freeman Ott and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Ryder. Contributor: Don (46558676)
