Married to Carlie Bernice Flemmons He was a Primitive Baptist preacher and served Medlan Chapel from 1937 to 1964. ==================================================================== Son of Matthew and Martha Strickland Omar Strickland married Carlie Bernice Flemmons on 24 December 1907. Elder Omar Strickland entered the hospital on theier 57th Wedding anniversary. Services for Elder Omar Strickland, 81, were held at Medlan Chapel Church. Elder Ray Piles, Primitive Baptist minister of Fort Smith, Arkansas officiated with Elder W.A. Pyles of Dallas and Elder Virgil Lowrance of Donaldson, Arkansas assisting. Elder Omar Strickland had been pastor of Medlan Chapel Church since 1937. He had been a Primitive Baptist minister for 54 years. The Strickland family moved to Graham in 1937. They lived on the Uncle Billy Ribble farm in the Henry Chapel community until 1939 when they moved to the church parsonage near the church building. In 1964, the couple moved to Graham to make their home. Survived by his wife; six sons - Weldon, Melvin, Herman, Jim, Orvie, and Dr. George Strickland; three daughters - Mrs. Williard Steele, Mrs. Bob Ragland, Mrs. John Robertson, Jr; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one brother - Oather Strickland; three sisters - Mrs. Ola Hullender, Mrs. W.I. Luckett, Mrs. Etta McGraw. Contributed by Dorman Holub ======================================================================= Carlie Bernice Flemmons married Omar Strickland on 24 December 1907 in Collin County, Texas. Elder Omar Strickland was born on the family farm in Scott County, Arkansas, near Waldron. He moved with his parents to Collin County, Texas on 5 December 1904. He became a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in 1908 and surrendered to the ministry in 1908. Omar Strickland was a minister at Emory, Texas from 1908-1916 when he moved his family to Princeton, Texas. While in Princeton, he was in the mercantile business from 1917-1921 and continued to preach in the church at Princeton and McKinney. He took his family to Knox County, Texas on 1 January 1921. While in the county, he served churches at Munday, Knox City, Kirkland, Odell, Paducah, Abilene, Crosbyton before moving to Medlan Chapel in July of 1923.
