Neil Norman Rollings Cameron - Mr. Neil Norman Rollings of Buckholts died Saturday, December 21, 2002 in a Temple hospital. Services held Monday, December 23rd at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with burial in the Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Rollings was born on September 20, 1919 in Batesville, Arkansas to John W. and Sarah E. Rollings. He was raised on a farm in southwest Missouri near Springfield. He married Eloise Lively of Bryant Station, Texas on April 11, 1942 in Galveston, Texas. He served 21 years in the U. S. Navy retiring in 1957 as a Warrant Officer WO-1. He was one of 59 survivors of the sinking of the U. S. Destroyer Leary (DD158) by a German submarine near Iceland on Christmas Eve 1943. He also served in the Pacific at Layte Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Rollings was a member of the Rogers Church of Christ, the Retired Officers Association, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Buckholts Lions Club. Mr. Rollings was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Rollings of Buckholts; a daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Dan Barnett of Kingwood and three grandchildren, Tim, Pam, and Kay; also survived by one brother, Lewis Rollings of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Betty Watkins of Kansas City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
