Bertha "Betty" Elizabeth Watkins passed away Monday February 9, 2004 at North Kansas City Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday, February 13, at Greenlawn South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, MO. Burial will be at Missouri State Veterans Cemetrey at 2 pm. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, from 530 to 7 pm in the funeral home. Betty was born April 20, 1921 n Dexter, Kansas, the daughter of John and Sarah Rollings. She was one of twelve siblings. She attended Spokane High School, graduated from Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1942, joined the USNavy in 1943, then left the Navy in 1946 to go to anesthesia school. In 1947, she graduated from Barnes Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia in St. Louis, MO qualifying her as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. In 1948 she reentered the Navy where throughout her years she was stationed at many different locations in the US and abroad. In 1961 she resigned the Navy to have her only child. She moved to Springfield in 1962 and returned to work as a CRNA in 1966, at the Federal Medical Center for Prisoners, which she retired from in 1986. In 2000 she moved to Kansas City, MO to be closer to her family. Betty was a very independent and capable person. She traveled to many places and touched many lives. She was a woman before her time.
