Bio
Tennie, as she was called most of her life, came with her parents to Collin Co. in 1874 (or 1872). She was born in Coffee Co., Tennessee, near Manchester, to George Hammond Shrader and Mary Inez Gibbs. Both are buried at Bethel Cem., north of Frisco, along with several of Tennie's brothers and their families. She was their tenth child and the last to be born in Tennessee. The family is listed on the 1870 US Census in Coffee County, but they left soon after as their 11th child (Fountain Pitt Shrader) was born January, 1871, in Carrollton, Carroll Co., AR. They arrived in Collin Co. in either 1882 or 1884 (conflicting dates found). They lived on the south side of the county for a while, but soon settled near the community of Collin, which later became Frisco. She married William Ryder Mathers (Dr.) on 15 Apr 1886. Their marriage is listed in "Collin County, Texas Marriage Records, 1846-1888," as "Mathews, WR, Dr married Tennie C. Shrader ......." You will notice that her nickname and middle initial sound like her real given first name (Tennie C./Tennessee). Tennie and William Ryder had six known children: George "Shrader" Mathers (abt 1890-abt 6 Oct 1920), Sophia Mathers (b. Jan 1890), Helen B. Mathers (b. Nov 1894), Dudley B. Mathers (b. October 1897 - d. 1977), William Ryder Mathers (b. 1906 d. 1912), and Fredrick Mathers (Mar 1910). Except for William Ryder Mathers, Jr., who died young (buried in this same plot), all of the sons (Shrader, Dudley, Fredrick) became doctors, like their father. According to her obituary, she was living in Dallas when she died.
