Bio

I would like to thank the photographer, who, as can be seen, remains anonymous and has no link to reach him/her. Thank you for the three photos of this family's gravestones. --------------------- In 1870, the Shrader family (George H. and Mary I.) left Coffee County, TN and were in Arkansas by January 1871, where they had their eleventh chile, Fountain (Fount) Pitt Shrader. By 1874, they were in Collin County, Texas, where they had their twelfth and last child, Daniel Booker Shrader. Their earlier children born in Coffee County, TN are: John Burr, 24 Dec 1848; William Henry Harrison, 26 Jan 1851; Elvira Florence/F.E., 4 Dec 1852; Houston Petway, 24 Mar 1855; George Washington (Buck), 24 Mar 1857; Mary Frances, 10 Apr 1859(my grt grdmother); James Knox Polk, 4 Mar 1861; Martha Elizabeth, 28 Jul 1863; Virginia Lee, 23 Oct 1865; Tennessee (Tennie) Catherine, 23 Oct 1865. John Burr Shrader is the only child of Buck and Mattie who did not come to Texas, although a descendant of John Burr's says he has letters that show that he did visit often. One of John Burr's daughters and her husband came to Collin County in the late 1890s. George Washington (Buck) married Martha (Mattie) Jane Bates on 12 Jan 1886 in Collin County. After 1907, but before 1910, they moved to Chaves County, NM. Marriage record is listed in "The Collin County, Texas, Marriage Records, 1846-1888," on page 32. Buck ran a grocery store in Collin County and in Roswell. They had six children, all born in Texas: Lillian Opal, Apr 1888; Goldye B., Jan 1890; Ruth, Oct 1891; Robert F., Sept. 1893; Lorraine, Feb. 1896; and Mildred, abt 1903. An article in the 1916-07-14 issue of the Albuquerque Journal lists Ruth Shrader of Roswell, Chaves County, along with several others, as notaries.
