Virginia May Nehls, 76, of Grand Island met her maker on Saturday, March 27, 2021. She got her angel wings, even if her halo is a little crooked. Private family services will take place a later date. Virginia was born June 21, 1944, in Loup City, NE, the daughter of Raymond and Ida (Fowler) Murphy. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School, class of 1962. On June 19, 1971, Virginia married Leland R. Nehls. They made their home in Grand Island. She was employed for 20 years as a Pharmacy Technician at Skagway. She worked alongside her husband in his custodian business until he retired. Following his death in 2017, heaven was where Virginia wanted to be. Virginia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW. Many people referred to Virginia as a spunky and sparky person, but we all know she could be a little brash. Nonetheless, she was loved by many people. She loved all things rusty and broke…so she could fix it someday. She loved to camp, fish and gamble…smoke cigarettes, drink coffee and talk for hours on end. Digging in her flowers and shopping were her favorite things to do. Those who cherish her memory include her children, Tammy (Craig) Beers, Kenneth "Todd" Nehls Sr. and Troy Nehls; adopted daughter, Cynthia McCarthy; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, William Murphy; and sister, Mary Bloomquist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her parents; son, Thomas Nehls Sr.; brother, Paul Murphy; and sister, Betty Butts.
