Leland R. Nehls, 75, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, peacefully at home, with his family at his side. Private family services will take place at a later date. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Nehls was born Nov. 1, 1941, at Kearney, the son of Henry and Pearl (Warford) Nehls. Leland was raised in Kearney, graduating from Kearney High School, class of 1960. He was united in marriage to Virginia Murphy on June 19, 1971. Leland worked in the custodian profession, having retired from The Grand Island Independent. He then owned his own custodian business along with his wife. He retired due to health issues. He was a simple, loving man with a contagious smile. He enjoyed reading, watching country westerns, fishing, camping and old Model T’s. His greatest joy was his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Virginia; their children, Tammy (Craig) Beers, Thomas Nehls Sr. and special friend, Cynthia McCarthy, Kenneth “Todd” Nehls Sr., and Troy Nehls; his sister, Maxcean Johnson; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; along with many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
