Bio
Mary E. Bloomquist, 89 of Grand Island, NE passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 15th from 5 to 7 PM at Apfel Funeral Home. Mary was born on August 10, 1934 in Ord, NE to Raymond and Ida (Fowler) Murphy. Mary grew up in Ord and graduated from Ord High School. She was united in marriage to Weston Bloomquist in May of 1957. Mary (Mert) loved her Dreisbach family of 44 years as much as she loved her own family. She enjoyed playing Bingo, crocheting, puzzles, and talking on the phone for hours to her Dreisbach co-workers, family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Christy (Alan) Kroeger; sons, Dennis (Karry) Bloomquist, Dean (Vickie) Bloomquist, and Doug (Kim) Bloomquist; brother, Bill (Pat) Murphy; grandchildren, Zac (Nicole) Bloomquist, Ethan (Abbey) Bloomquist, Caleb Hetrick, Tiffany Bloomquist, Rick (Lexie) Bloomquist, Nate (Malorie) Bloomquist, Kylie Bloomquist; step grandchildren, Tyler and Cody Kroeger; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Weston; daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Mike Hetrick; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Loretta Murphy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Don Butts, Virginia and Leland Nelhs and granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Hetrick.
