Betty R. Butts, 76 of Grand Island, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at her home with her family at her side. A Graveside Memorial Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island. The Reverend Jack Gillam will officiate. There will not be a visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Betty was born February 2, 1937 in Scotia, Nebraska to Raymond and Ida (Fowler) Murphy. Betty married Donald Butts in 1954 in Grand Island where they lived and raised their family. She loved gardening, reading, fishing, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Donald Butts of Grand Island; three daughters and their spouses, Pam Labart of Grand Island, Deb and Tony Brunt of Grand Island, Cecile and Jerry Lessig of Yuma, Arizona, and a chosen daughter, Becky Alexander of Briadwood, Illinois; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Bloomquist, Virginia and Leland Nehls; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Patty Murphy; and sister-in-law, Loretta Murphy. Also cherishing her memory are six grandchildren, Corrina (Brunt) Peters, Bobbie Jo (Labart) Ogle, Travis Brunt, Bill Labart, April Ann (Lessig) Glass, and Jeremy Lessig, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul Murphy; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Little Jerry Lessig.
