Bio
Lavaine Patterson Humphries, 78, of Turnersville, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Clifton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at First Baptist Church in Clifton with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be at Turnersville Cemetery. Lavaine was born in Bosque County, Texas, to the late Rosco and Ina Castell Finstad Patterson. She grew up in Bosque County and graduated from Clifton High School in 1946. She married Garland Humphries in 1947 and the couple lived in Clifton from 1947 to 1956, then they moved to Dallas where they lived from 1956-1969. While in Dallas, she worked at a finance company and as a church secretary for White Rock Baptist Church. They moved back to the farm near Turnersville where she helped take care of the farm while Garland worked in the building industry in Waco. Her favorite things to do were spending time with her family, baking, crocheting, and needlepoint. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jones. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Garland; son, Leonard and wife, Patsy, of Valley Mills; granddaughter, Lauri Brown and husband, Bobby, of Hewitt; great-granddaughter, Katie Brown, of Hewitt; brothers, Kent Patterson and wife, Pam, of Hewitt, Keith Patterson and wife, Rita, of Clifton, R.G. Patterson and wife, Kay, of Valley Mills, Marvin Patterson and wife, Delores, of Mesquite; sisters, Linda Patterson, of Waco and Barbara Dean and husband, W.C., of Coleman, Okla.; and many other family members and friends.
