Daughter of Melvin and Sina (Wilkey) Dawson. Married to Joel Allen Brickey in Jan. 1894. Ft. Smith, AR. Parents of Sammy, Henry Sherman Dewey U. all died young, Hubert, Katie Mae Brickey-Roper, Theulie Brickey Whitten, Jewell Brickey and James Harmon "Billy" Brickey. Sina was the daughter and wife of Church of the Brethren ministers. Cause of Death: heart attack. Nellie was a large boned woman, wore her hair in a bun, always wore a bib-apron and high top button shoes with hose rolled down to her ankles. My Mother, Iva Brickey Cardell said that as a small child they would visit Nellie, and she remembers Nora (Iva's Mother) saying that Nellie was a spotless housekeeper. Iva remembers one of the "viewers" that Nellie had, and sometimes Nellie would let the kids look through it. They had a house which stood off the ground, and kept a pig underneath. Mom said that was the first time she ever saw a pig and it scared her to death. (Iva was very small at the time!) Nellie's church "letter" came from (Wyman, Washington Co., Ar. date could not be read.
