Dawson, age 63 Sina, age 63 Dwelling #83 1910 Johnstone (Johnston?)Co., Myrick Twp, OK Jacob M. Dawson, Age. 29, b. AR. Bessie, age 18, b. MO. Melvin M. age 6 months, b. OK. 1920 Montague Co., Tx. household of Joel Allen and Nellie Dawson Brickey Served in the Civil War Another record says birthdate is April 5 1846 One of my records says he is buried at Oakland Cemetery, and Sina is buried at Bartlesville. PVT. Company A, (Capt. John Calligan) 6th Reg., Iowa Vol. Cavalry (b. in Ill.) (UNION) dated April 30 1864 age 18 (may have lied about his age to get in) Mustered out, Oct. 17 1865, Sioux City, Iowa He is buried at Oakland Cem. Exact location is Block 1, Lot 74, West side, Oakland Cem near Madill, Ok. RECORDS OF SUE SCRUGGINS. Sue has searched long and hard for this information, and finally was successful. She is now working on a death certificate. Joel Allen Brickey (married Nellie Dawson) signed Melvin's pension application. Obituary (Handwritten by his wife, Sina, but not published that I could find. She probably wrote it for their church newsletter) "Dawson M. M. Son of Issac and Nancy (OILER)Dawson born in the State of Illinois August 26, 1846 died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Rachel Weathers of Madill, Okla Sept 2, 1920. He was united in marriage to Miss Sina Wilkie Nov the 12, 1866 IN IOWA. To this union was born eleven children 6 girls and 5 boys. 3 boys and one girl proceeded him in death. He united with the church of the Brethern 1876 was elected to the office of DEACON about the year 1883 and some years later was elected to the ministry. CAMERON, OKLAHOMA Dec. 2, 1893 Melvin was advanced to second degree in the ministry (Church of the Brethren) He was well loved by all that knew him. He leaves a wife, 2 sons and 5 daughters to mourn their loss." In 1979 my grandmother, Nora and later her daughter, Lorine (1980's)went to Watts Funeral Home and they directed us to the cemetery, and gave us the location of the grave. At that time, there was no stone, but we found the location. After many years, his descendants Sue and Mary were able to secure a stone for him. THANK YOU! A wonderful book on the Dawson was written by Jene and Wanda and traces this family and their lines. Thank You for taking the time to do that! His name a photo of him and his wife are mentioned in the book "A History of the Brethren in Texas and Oklahoma 1891-1922" J. H. Morris wrote the Preface Oct. 21, 1922.
