Joel was the son of John Thompson and Frances E. GISH Brickey. He was a minister for the Brethren Church. He married to Nellie Mae Dawson, daughter of Melvin and Sina WILKEY Dawson. LISTED AS A COAL MINER IN 1900 CENSUS. Registration Card for WWI states was living in Montague Co., TX. born Dec 1 1873. Dated sept 12 1918. Brown Hair, Brown eyes. Listed wife Nellie. White When Joel Allen died, "Uncle App" Molsbe was in attendance, along with John White and Hubert Brickey. ~~~~~~~~~ Joel Allen was a small thin man, 5'3", black curly hair, dark eyes and complexion, and wore a goatee. He had dark eyes, and a dark complexion. He lived for awhile with Melvin and Sina (Wilkie) Dawson, near Ft. Smith, AR., before he married Nellie. (Cedar Vale, KS. 18??} He was a minister of the Brethren Church. (also known as the German Baptist Brethren Church) His father-in-law, Melvin Myers Dawson was advanced to the second degree of Ministry at Cameron, OK in Nov. 1893. Joel Allen was called to the ministry in Cameron, OK. in Nov. of 1893, and he was advanced to the second degree of ministry on Dec. 5, 1912 at Aylesworth, OK. Joel is said to have been a "healer" and believed in the "laying on of hands". He taught music (singing) at the Timber Hills Church and school. He was ordained (according to Nora White Brickey) as a Minister of the Gospel at Nocona, TX. Melvin's family, and Joel and Nellie were in Pocola, IT (OK) in 1898. Joel Allen died with Pellegra, a disease which can be cured with citrus fruit. He died on a ranch at Ringold, near Belcherville, TX., but is buried at Nocona. Ministers of that time period often had to accept offerings of food, instead of money, so they remained poor most of the time. Their Children were: Samuel, Henry Sherman, Dewey Ulysus who all died young, Hubert H., James Harmon, Katie Roper, Theulie Whitten and Jewell Brickey.
