Howard County Herald Wednesday, May 1, 1957, Number 5, page one. Rites Held for John H. Obermiller John Henry Obermiller, son of Hans and Margaret Obermiller was born on January 8, 1868 at Grand Island, Nebraska, and passed from this life on Thursday, April 18, 1957, at the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, after an illness of one month, being at the time of his death 89 years, 3 months and 10 days of age. On March 10, 1893, at St. Paul, Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Miss Christena (Christina) Schuett of Boelus, Nebraska, and they began housekeeping on their farm one mile south of Boelus. To this union were born three children. In 1916, they leased their farm and moved to a smaller farm near Farwell, where they resided for many years. They observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on March 10, 1943, and in the following September, Mrs. Obermiller passed away. Mr. Obermiller then retired and moved into Boelus, where he has since lived, until failing health forced him to spend one winter with his son, Robert, and wife. Last November, he moved to a rest home in Grand Island, where he resided until he entered the hospital a few days before his death. He has always been a hard working man, and he took a great delight in raising good crops and fine livestock, and in later years in working in his garden and flowers. He also took great pride in keeping his home neat in appearance. He was preceded in death by his wife and son, Freddie; his parents; three brothers, Fred, George, and Otto. Left to mourn his passing are a son, Robert of Boelus; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Spellman of Baldwin Park, California; two brothers, Albert of Loup City, Nebraska, and Harry of Grand Island; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Nagel of Washougal, Washington; Mrs. Dora Obermiller of Lake Worth, Florida; Mrs. Carrie Wichman of Farwell, Nebraska; and Mrs. Freida Rea of Camas, Washington; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
