He 1st married Elizabeth M. Smith on November 10, 1849. They had 9 known children. Sarah Alice, Ben Franklin, Henry Clay, Desdemonia, Jodena A., Samuel Martin, William, John Calvin, And Sherman. His 2nd Marriage was Catherine Rose Beldsoe on November 7, 1888 He was enlisted in the union army July 25, 1862 at Vienna, Indiana. Mustered out June 3, 1865 ∼ Joseph H. Johnston, 73, died Oct. 1897 in Scottsburg, Scott County, Indiana on Wednesday at the home of H. W. Brodt. He was the father of Mrs. Brodt. Joesph Harvey Johns(t)on was born Dec. 17, 1823 in Chester County, South Carolina, the son of James and Sarah (McElroy) Johnston. He married Elizabeth Smith Nov. 10,1849 in Clark County, Indiana. They had nine children. He later married Catherine Rose Johnson Bledsoe on Nov. 7, 1888 in Jackson County, Indiana. They had no children. Joseph Harvey Johnston enlisted in the American Civil War August 19th, 1862. He served for the state of Indiana on the Union side. His enlistment rank was 1st Sergeant. He was in Company K 66th Regiment, Indiana Infantry. He mustered out June 3rd, 1865 at Washington, D. C.
