Henry Clay Johnston, 86, a retired Moline carpenter, died at 11 this morning in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Hoover of Port Byron, after an extended illness. Mr. Johnston had made his home with his daughter since April. He had been a resident of Moline since 1914 and for five years after retiring from active work as a carpenter in 1928 he served as a janitor of the First Methodist Church of Moline. Mr. Johnston was born in Indiana on Jan. 19, 1854. He married to Rosa Deal in Indiana on Sept. 9, 1877. The family moved to Moline in 1914. He was a member of the Bloomington, Ind., Odd Fellow lodge. His wife and one daughter preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hoover; five sons, Judson, Charles and Ralph of Moline, Carl of Rock Island and Alvin Johnston of Albany, Ga.; two brothers and a sister in Indiana; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnston was a member of the First Christian church of Moline. Funeral Friday Funeral services will be held at 2 Friday afternoon in the First Christian church with the Rev, J. N. Gibble officiating. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery. The body will be at Esterdahl mortuary until Friday noon.
