He was joyfully greeted in heaven by his family members who preceded him in death. Lawrence was born on December 14, 1930 in Richmond, Texas to Paul and Mary Steffek Zwahr. In 1951, Lawrence voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed for several years in Japan. After his discharge, Lawrence attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He later returned to Texas and began a 37.3 year career with Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX retiring on December 31, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Janice Zwahr; brother-in-law, Otto Meyen; nephews, Darrel Zwahr and David Meyen; and mother and father in-law, Victoria (Dora) and Walter Arnie. His favorite pastimes included going to the pasture tending to his cattle, spending time with his sons and their cattle, tinkering in his shop, and enjoying a cup (or two) of coffee with the morning crew at 360 Short Stop. Lawrence loved his family and spending time with them was one of his favorite things to do. He could also easily be coaxed into a good game of 42. Lawrence was dearly loved by his family and friends who will all miss him tremendously. The family would like to thank the staff at SPJST for the special care they provided Lawrence these last several months. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Monday, October 8th at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel.
