Bio
John was born in Newton County Mississippi to Jeptha and Margaret(Sessums)Parks. John's occupation was farming. He lived in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Johnny was very reserved according to Ila Parks Claffee,( his niece and daughter of Robert Leroy Parks.) This could have been sadness from losing daughter Rhoda and wife Emma both in 1914. Children Robert L. and Carrie had died also. Four of John's Uncles died in the Civil War. He married Emma Cornelia Hollingsworth March 16, 1889. This marriage record is on roll 14 microfilm for Newton County, MS. 1872-1900 Index to Marriage Records 929.3m69ne located at the Dept. of Archives and History, Jackson, MS. Researcher Harold Graham notes state: John Rayburn Parks was a namesake of Capt John Quincy Rayburn, a local Confederate hero who was killed by a bullet wound to the forehead as the Union troops swept through Newton County, Mississippi, in1864. He (John Quincy Rayburn) was a son of James Augustus Rayburn and Letitia (Lettice) Cooksey, and therefore a cousin to Jeptha Parks. (John's Dad) Following the death of Emma in 1914 Johnnie married (2) Perneica Hollingsworth in 1916 and (3) Mary Katherine Temple in 1924. His marriage to Perneica did not last.
