Fort Bend Herald, October 9, 2017: Funeral services for Evelyn Anna Katherine Miller Gorka, age 96, of Rosenberg, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 10, 2017, with visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 PM prior to the service. The service will be held at Immanuel Evangelical Church at 9018 Church St., Needville, Texas. Burial will follow at the Immanuel Evangelical Church Cemetery, also in Needville, Texas. Evelyn died Friday, October 6, 2017, in Needville, Texas. She was born April 10, 1921 in Guy, Texas to Henry A. and Elizabeth Zwahr Miller. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who adored her family and loved family gatherings. She was an incredible cook and baker and with her green thumb could turn weeds to roses. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Evangelical Church and a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge #153. Staying home until her children were all of school age, Evelyn pursued her dream of higher education and received a business certification from the Zorn School of Business. She spent many happy years employed with The Post Office Pharmacy in Richmond, Texas where she made many lifelong friends. Evelyn loved football and never missed her son's games. She also really enjoyed watching her grandson's college games and NFL games. Evelyn was sharp of mind, enjoying reading her newspaper and daily devotionals every day until her final day. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie, her beloved husband of 65 years; her infant daughter, Charlene; her daughter-in-law, Cindi Gorka; her granddaughter, Karen Hammerschmidt; and her son-in-law, Thomas A. Bosse; also by her sister, Joyce; and four brothers, Irvin, Paul, Marvin, and Eugene Miller; and her sister-in-law, Jill Miller. She is survived by daughters, Carol Bosse of Needville and Claudette Carson of Rosenberg; sons, Dennis Gorka and Cathy Early of Richmond, David Gorka and wife, Erin, of Pleak, and Douglas Gorka and wife, JoAnn, of Richmond; grandchildren, Wyatt Bosse and wife, Amy, of Needville, Wade Bosse and wife, Teresa, of East Bernard, Carolanne McAfee and husband, Russ, of Weimar, Luke Carson and wife, Erin, of Santa Cruz, CA., Dan Hammerschmidt of Stillwater, OK., Bryan Gorka and wife, Tanya, of Tomball, Jennifer Yackel and husband, Ronnie, of Beasley, Kristin Gorka and Dustin Richard of Vinton, LA, and Matthew Gorka of Pleak; also, Kristin Parker, Kody Korthauer, and Korey Korthauer. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, Jacob, John, and Lauren Bosse, Mark, Justin, and Keriann Bosse, Jodi and Kelly McAfee, Holly and Michael Hammerschmidt, Nixon and Elliot Gorka, Chase, Kailey, and Garrett Yackel, and Millie Richard. She is also survived by her sisters-in-laws, Bernice, Martha, and Joy Miller, and Frances Gorka and Hattie Lamza; also many nieces, nephews, and other family members. Evelyn's family would like to give great thanks to the SPJST Rest Home staff and the Houston Hospice of El Campo staff for the special and loving care given to our mother.
