He leaves behind 8 wonderful grandchildren, Emma, Noah & Owen Jernigan, Chance Charanza, Colten, Caiden, & Camren Georgi, and Casen Miller with one more baby Miller due in March. He is also survived by his friend and companion Diane Fleming. Gene was born on November 18, 1940, in Guy, TX and graduated from Needville High School in 1959. After graduation, Gene proudly joined the United States Army, serving his country in Korea, Vietnam and Germany. After retiring from the army after 20 years of service, Gene couldn’t sit still. Since then, Gene has held many jobs and was a well known “jack of all” trades. He worked at the Richmond State School, Needville ISD, and SPJST Rest Home. In addition, Gene has been an active and supportive member of the Needville community. He served on the Needville LIttle League Board, Needville Booster Club, and was always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. He didn’t know what the words “No” or “I can’t” mean because they weren’t in his dictionary. Gene loved tinkering with anything mechanical, fishing at his favorite spot in Sargent, and playing pool in his local league. Gene has chosen to donate his body to medical research. A memorial service is planned to celebrate his life on Monday September 28, 2015, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville, TX. In leiu of flowers, memorials may be made to Needville Little League, Needville Booster Club, or a cancer charity of your choice.
