Published in the Brazosport Facts 10 March 2000. Alvin George Palat A.G. "Slim" Palat, 88, resident of Freeport, Texas passed away Thursday March 9, 2000 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00PM Sunday, March 12, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport with Rev. Mike Pentecost officiating. Family will receive friends at the Freeport Funeral Home from 2:00PM until 5:00PM Saturday March 11, 2000. There will be a Masonic Graveside Service following the church service with the Velasco Masonic Lodge 757 officiating at Restwood Cemetery. Mr. Palat retired as an electrician for the Dow Chemical Company after 28 years of service. Mr. Palat was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Freeport, the Velasco Masonic Lodge #757, member of the Royal Arch Mason – Freeport Chapter #487, the Royal & Select Masters Freeport Council #402, and the Litt's Perry Commandry #111. Mr. Palat received the Golden Trowel for exceptional service in 1996. He is survived by a brother Edward Palat of Clute and two sisters: Mildred Seiler of Blanco, Texas and Edna "Pat" Tribble of Brazoria, and nephews: Bill Palat, Glenn Palat, Jimmy Palat, Richard Palat, Larry Seiler, and Ronald Trible. He is also survived by one niece, Gail Tribble Tarver; and a special caregiver, Bonnie Pousson. He was preceded in death by his wife Opal Palat and brothers, Ernest Palat and Bill Palat (During WWII). Active pallbearers will be Jerrald Thomas, Tom Hewett, Jesse White, Ben White, Rudy Cavazos, and Cecil Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews. Funeral services by Freeport Funeral Home.
