John W. Clowdus was the son of Harper W. and Mary "Polly" Murphree Clowdus. John married Mary Ann "Polly" Blakely 8 Feb 1840 in Bedford County, TN. They had 9 children: James H. Clowdus ., Mary Ann Clowdus, Daniel Elihu Clowdus, Perry Clowdus, Sara Ann Clowdus, Stephen A. Clowdus, Eliza Jane Clowdus, John Remus Clowdus and Rufus Pennington Clowdus. John's second marriage was to Frances Ellis Armstrong 21 Dec 1864 in Blount County, AL. They also had 8 children: Robert Fletcher Clowdus , Simeon Hamilton, Deforrest Alexander, Wesley Ellis, Barnett O., Lea Gurley , Benjamin Franklin, and Nancy Pearl Clowdus.
