Bio

Myrtle (Naomi) Bernardi, 91, Lanesville, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Golden Guardian Nursing Home in Lanesville. Born Jan. 30, 1915, in Alton, she was the daughter of the late John and Bessie Kemp Johnson. She was a retired scheduler and operator for the old Indiana Bell Telephone in New Albany. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Lester Bernardi, and two daughters, Mary Ruth Bernardi and Phyllis (Jeanne) Walther. Survivors include a brother, Jimmy Johnson of Leavenworth; a sister, Alice Pearl Bates of New Albany; two grandchildren and one of their spouses, Vincent and Tina Walther and Julie Wolfe, all of Lanesville, who cared for her; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation: Tuesday, Jan. 30, from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 31, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon. Funeral: Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with entombment at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Officiant: Pastor Christopher Truelsen. Pallbearers: James McKim, Buck Rissler, Jerry Wolfe, James Thompson, Herb Stewart and John Schmelz. Honorary pallbearers: Dillon Walther, Jerred Wolfe and Rex Johnson. The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
