Dorothy Evelyn Roland, 94, was born on February 2, 1922 (2/2/22, the best birthday ever) to Rush and Lillie (Austell) Wynkoop, in Lookeba, OK. She passed away on Nov. 28, 2016 in Oklahoma City. She grew up on a farm south of Verden, one of 12 children. She loved being part of her big family, going to school and climbing trees to read her favorite books. In 1943, she rode on a bus to San Francisco with a group of her friends from Eakly to work in the shipyard during WWII. She was truly a Rosie the Riveter. There she met Leonard Ardmer Roland and they were married on September 14, 1943. They farmed in Fruita, CO where their son Randall Leonard was born. They moved to Bisbee, AZ the next year to work in the copper mine to save money for a peanut farm in Oklahoma. Their daughter, Rita Lynn was born in 1948. In 1960, they moved back to Eakly to raise their family and farm. Evelyn was a faithful Christian, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend. She always had a smile on her face. She loved to read, do crosswords puzzles, and was a mean scrabble player well into her 90's. She is preceded in death by her parents Rush and Lillie Wynkoop; husband Leonard Roland; son Randy Roland; daughter Rita Roland Haley; brothers Ivan, Eddie, Stanley, and Paul; also sisters Lovie, Lois, Virgie, and Joy. She is survived by her granddaughter Raena Haley Ford and husband Gareth; great granddaughter Plum Ford; son in law Randall Haley; brother A.J. Wynkoop; sisters Mary Young, Leatha Kettle, and Leona Bell Justice; and many loved nieces and nephews. Special thank you to Carmalita Larkins and Michelle Lee for their wonderful care over the last four years. There will be a reception for family and friends prior to service on Friday at the church from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Funeral service will be Friday, December 2, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Eakly First Assembly of God, 610 S. Church Ave, Eakly, OK with burial following at Eakly Cemetery.
