Willie Mae (Hejl) Becan, 95, slipped away to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016. Willie Mae was born March 9, 1921, in the Czech community of West, Texas. She and her eight siblings lost their father at an early age and along with the older Hejl children she had to leave school to help their mother on the family farm. She left West at age 16 to join her older sister Agnes in Fort Worth where she found work and met Jaromir Joseph Becan, whom she married in 1942. She returned to her mother's farm while Jaromir was deployed to Europe in WW II from 1943-1946, during which time their first child was born. Three more children arrived between 1946-56, and Willie Mae remained involved in her children's education and activities, committed volunteer in church and community and worked as a nurse's aide. She spent most of the next years as a successful Avon Representative, enjoyed traveling and keeping up with grandchildren. In her later years she enjoyed recycling and selling items in garage sales and flea markets. Her husband Jaromir preceded her in death in 200l. Survivors: Daughter, Madeleine and husband, Jim Myers; sons, Jaromir Jr. and wife, Terrie Reutinger Becan and Bernard Becan, whose wife, Penny passed away in 2012; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Dan Miller; 11 grandchildren, Steve Myers, Melanie Tracht, and Justin Myers, Jeff, Sarah, David and Mary Claire Becan, Beckie Becan Gautreau; Emily Miller LaChance, Tracy Miller, Veronica Miller Haslam; and 12 great-grandchildren.
