Cherokee Daily Times: Aug. 20, 1983: Page 2 Mrs. Joseph (Rose) Zimmer, 83, died Thursday at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Prior to that she had been a longtime resident of the Maryhill community, Cherokee County. Rose Pitts was born Aug. 18,1900, to Mr. and Mrs. William Pitts at Maryhill. On May 6,1919, she married Joseph Zimmer at Maryhill. Mrs. Zimmer was a cook for the Religious Order of Presentation Sisters, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Storm Lake. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sylvester (Dorothy) Schroeder, Alta; two grandchildren; brothers, William Pitts, Marcus, and Melvin Pitts, Cleghorn, and sisters, Mrs. Mary Leonard, Mrs. Gertrude Messerole and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Rahn, all of Cherokee, and Mrs. Kathryn George, Storm Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 18, 1953, three sons and two brothers. Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Maryhill Visitation Catholic Church. The Rev. Dale George will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 3:30 p.m. by the Legion of Mary and by the parish at 8 at the Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee.
