Chronicle Times: Oct. 28, 2004: Page 2 Ronald "Tiny" Messerole, 63, of Orange City, former longtime Cherokee resident, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at his home in Orange City after a long hard fought battle with cancer. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004 at the Maryhill Visitation Catholic Church, rural Cherokee Father Gene Stizmann, Father Dale George, Father John Vakulskas Jr will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 9 am. until 9 p.m with a prayer service at 7 p m at Greenwood Funeral Home, Cherokee. Few knew Ronald's given name as he was known to everyone as "Tiny" He was born June 18, 1941 in Cherokee to Gordon and Gertrude (Pitts) Messerole and was raised in the Maryhill community, graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in 1959. In 1961 he and his family moved from the farm into Cherokee and on May 12, 1962, he married Gayle Fuhrman at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, their married life was spent in Cherokee until 1997 when he accepted a job in Mt Pleasant. After he suffered major health problems, they returned to northwest Iowa in 1999 making their home in Orange City. He was in the tire business most of his adult life traveling throughout northwest Iowa selling tires for Love Tire Shop, Hwy 59 Tire and Graham Tire, all of Cherokee. While in Orange City, he worked part-time at Foreman Tire in Alton until his health failed. He took pride in his work and over the years had many loyal customers that he also considered his friends. Known "to be able to fix anything", he enjoyed spending hours in his garage and at his workbench. He was fond of his 1972 Chevy truck which he called 'Ole Yeller'. He appreciated what was important in life. His faith, which was comfort and strength, his loving family and good friends. A quiet man who's children and grandchildren brought him great joy. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Survivors are Gayle, his wife and best friend; son Tyler and wife, Erica, of Maplewood, Minn, and children, Kelsey and Joe; daughter Teri Soole and husband, Marty, of Sioux City; sons Marty, Jeff, Mike and JT. Son Todd and wife, Donna, of Onawa; daughters Amanda and Hannah, also two brothers: Robert Messerole and wife, Sheryl, of Roach, Mo.; Roy Messerole and wife, Mary, of LeMars; two sisters: Gertrude Selk and husband, Tom, of Larrabee; Joyce Bechel and her husband, Mike, of Cherokee and sister-in-law Elaine Messerole; also his mother-in-law Doreen Fuhrman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeannette and Robert Grant; brothers-in-law Gary and Gerald Furhman of Cherokee and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jesse, father-in-law Walter Fuhrman and sister-in-law Janice Fuhrman.
