Bio

Robert C. Ray was born 29 Dec 1871, in Wayne Co., TN, departed this life 16 May 1931, age 59 years, 4 months and 17 days. He leaves his mother, four sisters and three brothers in his childhood home. In his own family he leaves four children to mourn the loss of a father. The funeral was conducted at Ethridge on Sunday, 17 May at 1 p.m., by the writer. O.L. North funeral director. We buried his frail body in the old cemetery there, beside the graves of his father and one brother. I wish to say to the bereaved ones as Paul the Peerless preacher of the ages said to his brethren "that our light afflictions which are but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal." The good people of Ethridge where the Rays have lived for so many years, were at the funeral to show sympathy for this bereaved family. - T.C. King The above was taken from the obituary of Robert Ray, Democrat Union, 26 May 1931. Robert was the son of John Almon Ray & Sarah Lavina Agnes Jane (Sallie) Huckaba. He married Darcus Elizabeth (Lizzie) Thompson (daughter of John Thompson & Margaret Hardin) 12 Mar 1893 in Wayne Co., TN. They had 4 children. NOTE: Robert Cicero Ray's death certificate states he was born 18 Dec 1872. Both his death certificate and his obituary state he is buried here at Ethridge Cemetery, however, 2 volunteers could not find his grave. He probably has an unmarked grave.
