Winkel, 69, Tennessee Colony, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tennessee Colony Church with the Rev. Rick Syndor and Dr. Tom Britain officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Tennessee Colony Cemetery under direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. He was born April 3, 1928, in Spurger to the late John Arthur Sr. and Mary Alice Willie Winkel. He was a dairy for 30 years, contract pumper for Mobil Oil Co. and co-owner of Winkel & Son Construction Co. He was a Baptist and member of Tyre Masonic Lodge No. 198 AF&AM and 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by brother, A. I. Winkel. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Winkel, Tennessee Colony; daughters, Ann Winkel Costlow and Tobin Winkel, Tennessee Colony; sons, Tony Winkel, Palestine, and Todd Winkel, Tennessee Colony; sisters, Susie Sample, DeRidder, La., Juanita Smith and Dimp Levins, Spurger, Virile Smith, Buna, Madaline Minter, Angleton, and Geraldine Norvell, Conroe; brothers, Lewis Winkel and Walter Winkel, both of Silsbee; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers include E.G. Scarborough, Jack Thornton, Littleton Sharp, Darwin Link, Wade Norvell, Bruce Allen, Frank Henry and Barry Cook. Honorary pallbearers are Stuart McLen, Bill Merchant, Delbert Brown, Berney Lara and brothers.
