She left this world suddenly on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the age of 67. Ann was born on April 21, 1955 to J. A. and Ernestine Winkel in Palestine, Tx. She was baptized at a young age at the Tennessee Colony Church. Nana was welcomed into Heaven with open arms by her Lord and Savior; her parents, J.A. and Ernestine Winkel; son, John Costlow; sister of the heart, Nell Pickle Alexander; brother, Tony Winkel; and sister-in-law Shelia Davis. Ann was raised on a dairy farm in Tennessee Colony, TX. She enjoyed the cattle and working alongside her daddy and being outdoors. She then attended Sam Houston State University and obtained her Bachelor of Education, where she went on to teach at Cayuga Elementary School. While teaching Ann welcomed her oldest child, John and immediately knew her calling was to be a stay at home mom. She also joined her Daddy in the construction industry. After having her two daughters, Mary and Cortney, she devoted her life to her children. She was the most loving and amazing mother. Her biggest accomplishment was being the "best" mother a child could have. She spent her life giving to others. Mama never missed a school event, party or having homemade rice crispy cookies the 1st day of school. Her legacy of mercy, grace and true love will live on through her children and grandchildren for many generations to come. Even though Ann was a mother to only three children she loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for many other children in the community to enjoy. Her love for cooking showed with many nights of a full table. Nana loved to travel, enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, being the biggest fan and mentor to her two daughters and taking care of Delby. Being a wife to Delbert was her passion and she loved every minute of it. Nana was a simple woman made up of pure love. Ann's most treasured title was "Mama" and "Nana". Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Nana was a kind and caring person that never met stranger. She loved watching her children and grandchildren throughout each accomplishment in their lives. They lit up her world. Besides Mama and Nana, Ann was known by many as boss. She owned a construction company for more than 40 years and recently opened The Flower Shop in Palestine, TX. The Flower Shop was a ministry and her way to give back after the loss of her son, John. Her employees and businesses were a testimony to her character. Those missing Nana include her husband of 18 years, Delbert W Brown; daughter, Mary Walker and husband JD, and Cortney LeGard and husband Jeramy; sisters, Tobin Winkel, and Wanda Martin; brother Todd Winkel and wife Kelli.
