Bio
Lewis Benjamin Franklin Shirley, aged eighty-one years, was found dead in a ditch in the L&N "Y" near his home in Oneonta about nine o'clock Christmas morning. It is believed that he suffered a heart attack and fell off the railroad track on his way home Christmas Eve night. Although his son, John Shirley and family, lived in the house with him they were unaware of the fact that he did not come in Thursday night. Mr. Shirley moved from Straight Mountain to Oneonta a number of years ago and went into the mercantile business. He continued in the business until he retired a few years ago. He was a good merchant and a good man and leaves many friends who will regret to learn of his sudden death. Survivors include four sons, John of Oneonta, T.G. of Route 2, Springville, W.F. of Route 2, Oneonta and Pliney of Acmar; 1 daughter, Mrs. Homer Wells of Birmingham; and one half-brother, Rev. Henry Bellew of Straight Mountain. Funeral services were held at Antioch Saturday afternoon by Rev. Dykes, Fendley and Penland, with Robinette directing.
